This is my story, which led to the design and manufacture of STOCCT - home stock system.
Solving the problem of home stock control. Also ideal for small businesses who cannot afford expensive stock control systems.
In the modern world a lot of pressure is placed on women. We have to work full time as well as take care of our families and household responsibilities. We, for example, have four kids - a very busy household!
The whole idea came about when, one night after work, my husband called me to inform me we were having unexpected guests for dinner. Halfway through the preparation of dinner I realised some essential ingredients were out of stock in my pantry. I quickly had to improvise .
I normally do my shopping online through the already existing web based sites, and even though creating shopping carts make things a little more convenient, it still doesn't solve the problem of home stock control. These days there are many creative apps available for smartphones but again, you don’t have 100% control. You still don’t know what items are used or taken without your knowledge by other house occupants. Also, the apps becomes outdated and fails after a while.
On that specific night, 21 June 2017, after our guests left and we were ready to retire for the night – it suddenly hit me! The only way to really solve the problem of home stock control was to manage it the same way you would manage stock for your business – you actually need a scanner and software designed for the household. This will enable all house occupants to contribute towards solving the problem. When an item is removed/used it immediately gets scanned and added to your shopping list. Shopping lists are available on any computer or mobile device, it doesn't need to be a smartphone.
This home stock control system enables families to help take care of each other, simply by allowing user access to your system, someone else can shop on your behalf.
For future development we plan to interface with online retailers. After submitting your shopping list, the order would be received by the retailer, processed and delivered.
